The sumptuous flower glass in this shade was made by Uroboros Glass. It is colored with neodymium, a rare earth element that imparts a subtle pink-mauve hue very close to that of the natural flower. The colorant is truly dichroic, in that the glass appears pale blue-violet in reflected light. Although rare in nature, neodymium is cheap enough to use in glass, because it is a low-use by-product of uranium refining!
